About

In January, 2013 the owner of a gallery in Manitou Springs solicited proposals via social media for ideas to increase her gallery‚Äôs visibility to the public and provide something of beauty for the community.  Jennifer Ryan, founder of The Mural Project of Colorado Springs, proposed to utilize a prominent local artist to design and paint a mural on the side of the 100 year old brick gallery building.  However, there was one caveat, to include at-risk incarcerated youths to paint a portion of the mural.  The hope was that including these youths would allow them to participate in creating something permanent, something of value, something of beauty and realize healing and inspiration as a result.  After considering several proposals, the gallery owner decided to go for it and the Mountain Living Studio Mural Project was born.

The mural was designed, the youths eagerly participated, local media covered the story and a dedication ceremony involving business and community leaders, City Council, the Chamber of Commerce, friends and artists took place on March 15, 2013.  The project was a resounding success for the participants, the gallery owner and the community.
